LG G6 teaser suggests that it is building the ideal smartphone; Samsung had better watch out

LG is preparing what appears to be the ideal smartphone. The LG G6, which is slated for an MWC 2017 debut next month, will be the successor to LG’s ill-fated, modular G5 smartphone.
Rather than try something radical, LG’s G6 teaser suggests that LG has listened to users and is building a phone based on those needs.
What’s on your mobile phone wish-list?
If LG is to be believed, we want a phone with a large screen, but it should be small enough to fit in our pockets. The phone must also be comfortable to hold and easy to use with one hand, particularly with regards to text messages. We also, apparently, want a phone that’s waterproof, has a great camera and is reliable.
LG claims to have packaged all of these needs in a single device, the G6. It’s an about-turn for a company that’s been dabbling in gimmicks for a while now, including modular designs and secondary screens.
LG Display recently announced a 5.7-inch 18:9 display for the LG G6. The unusual aspect ratio means that the display is narrower than existing 16:9 screens, and that means a narrower phone. LG had also claimed to have cut down on bezel thickness.
Assuming that LG isn’t going for gimmicks, we can expect a 5.7-inch smartphone which will probably be powered by something like a Snapdragon 835 backed by 6GB of RAM. The teaser hints at a camera that “can see it all”, which might suggest a dual-camera design like on the LG G5, which hosted a regular camera alongside one with a fish-eye lens.
We’re already expecting something special from Samsung, in the form of the Galaxy S8, and maybe even something from Xiaomi. Will the LG G6 be special enough to stand shoulder-to-shoulder in such company? Only time will tell.
